KU basketball defeats Ottawa, 95-60

Jayhawks complete exhibition trip to Canada with victory

The Kansas men's basketball team defeated Ottawa University, 95-60, in the Jayhawks' final exhibition game in Ottawa, Canada.

Mario Little 21, Tyshawn Taylor 20, Quintrell Thomas 12, Cole Aldrich 10, Travis Releford 7, Matt Kleinmann 6, Tyrel Reed 5, Conner Teahan 5, Brennan Bechard 5, Tyrone Appleton 2, Chase Buford 2.

Little also added eight assists to go along with seven rebounds.

After the game, Little revealed he played all weekend with a stress fracture in his lower left leg. He said he suffered it last year at Chipola (Fla.) Community College. He said he did not need surgery, but would take a couple of weeks off of physical activity for it to heal.

Brady Morningstar (ankle) and Sherron Collins (knee) both sat out with injuries.

ottawa, Ontario, Canada Behind a combined 41 points from KU newcomers Mario Little and Tyshawn Taylor, Kansas men's basketball defeated Ottawa University 95-60 at Montpetit Hall on the campus of Ottawa University here Sunday evening.

Little and Taylor combined for 17-21 shooting Taylor scoring a game-high 21 points and Little 20. All 11 Jayhawks who suited up scored in the victory, with freshman forward Quintrell Thomas adding 11 points and sophomore center Cole Aldrich 10 on 5-of-5 shooting. Thomas led all rebounders with eight boards, while Aldrich and Little pulled down seven each.

The victory made KU 3-0 on its 2008 Canada exhibition tour. It was KU's 31st straight exhibition win dating back to 1995. Kansas improved to 49-7 all-time in exhibition play. It gave head coach Bill Self a 16-0 exhibition record while at KU. Ottawa fell to 0-3 on its exhibition games against NCAA teams in 2008.

Up 18-15 with eight minutes prior to the half, Kansas went on a 13-4 run to pull away from the Gee-Gees. Little had 15 of his 20 points and pulled down five rebounds in the first period. KU had a comfortable 46-31 lead at intermission.

In the second half, KU kept control of the game and led 62-39 with 13:17 to play on an Aldrich basket following a Travis Releford steal. Releford ended the game with seven points.

Senior walk-ons Matt Kleinmann and Brennan Bechard combined for 11 points for the game. Bechard nailed three-pointer in the first half and ended with five points, while Kleinmann was 3-for-4 from the field with six points and four rebounds.

Prior to the contest former KU basketball, football and track letterman Jay Roberts was honored with a KU No. 55 jersey presented by Self. Roberts graduated from Kansas in 1964 and went on to play seven seasons with the Ottawa Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Roberts, who lettered in basketball at KU from 1962-63, stayed in Ottawa following his football career and been a major contributor to the Ottawa community.

Kansas will now take off until the first official day of practice on Oct. 17 at Late Night in the Phog. The Jayhawks' first exhibition game of the season will be when they host Washburn on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. (Central).

Pure bull-butter that we cannot watch these games on even some local j-tv or comparable type of network. There is no supportable rationale. Im sure some area business would pay the cheap ad time after 10:30pm even--whatever it takes!? Total hooey.

Seems the game was at 6:00 CDT, which put Ohio at 7:00 pm. I got only music on KLZR. I was disappointed, of course, but it was a big victory.

The best article so far was Joe Davis above. That is excellent informatio0n. Guess one couldn't get it on here directly. Thanks!
