Tim Beck was the first to leave Kansas University’s football coaching staff. The question is, will he be the last? It’s hard to say, but I’ll go ahead and guess no.Coaches are in Anaheim, Calif., for another day or two at the AFCA Convention right now. There, they catch up, pass out business cards, the unemployed bother head coaches who have openings (Mark Mangino [has one][1]) and occasionally they all do things the convention is really set up for, like meetings and speakers.Out of the great northwest, Seattle Times reporter Bob Condotta is reporting on his blog that he’s hearing rumors of Washington [ having interest in Bill Young][2], KU’s defensive coordinator. Nothing that’s gaining a ton of steam, but another example that the college football hot stove (the assistant coach version) is warming up.It’s not surprising. Bill Young has been popular this time of year for a while now, yet he’s never been lured away since joining the Jayhawks in 2002. For every rumor like Washington coming to the surface, there might be three or four cases that never get made public regarding a program wanting Young.Several other KU coaches will join the list, considering Kansas won the Orange Bowl with a bunch of under-the-radar recruits. Seriously, what’s not to like about what the Jayhawks accomplished? For those wanting the entire football operation to stay in tact, buckle up. First, there was Tim Beck, [Anthony Collins and Aqib Talib.][3] Another assistant or two could be next. It’s that time of year.
