An ankle injury forced the Kansas basketball team to play much of the first half of its Big 12 road opener at Iowa State without Marcus Garrett.
After a 79-53 victory in Ames, Iowa, head coach Bill Self credited his team’s response to that challenge.
“I thought really the middle 20 minutes of the game we defended pretty well and rebounded and everybody contributed,” Self said. “It was especially nice for us to see that when Marcus wasn’t in the game, because he’s been kind of the glue for us. But I thought we played pretty well without obviously one of our best players.”
Garrett returned to the court before halftime and played 19 minutes overall in the win.
