Victor Simmons and Jacorey Shepherd lead the defense and player ratings

By Staff     Nov 8, 2014

**1 – Victor Simmons:** Made several big plays to kill ISU threats and finished with five tackles, two sacks for 18 yards in losses, a pass breakup and a forced fumble that he recovered.

**2 – JaCorey Shepherd:** Had a whopping five pass breakups and continued his stellar senior season by giving the quarterback no window to his man. Outjumped his man for an interception in the end zone.

**3 – Corey Avery:** Fast, shifty and balanced, Corey Avery bounced his way to the end zone on a 14-yard run for the game’s first touchdown and finished the day with 103 rushing yards, averaged 6.1 yards a carry, and caught a 12-yard pass.

**4 – Tony Pierson:** Drove the Cyclones defense nuts by using his speed to get to the outside and ran for 101 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry.

**5 – Nigel King:** Outmuscled and outjumped his man for a catch near the end zone that set up a touchdown.

“That was Nigel being Nigel,” quarterback Michael Cummings said. “He’s an aggressive receiver and a lot of times you don’t see that with guys out on the edge. But when that ball’s in the air, he feels like it’s his and nobody else’s.”

King had five catches for 101 yards.

**6 – Jimmay Mundine:** Caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, caught balls out of his area, and gained yards after the catch that required creativity and determination on his part.

**7 – Michael Cummings:** Completed 24 of 40 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown. He missed a stretch of the first half with what he called “a stinger” in his right shoulder. Did not throw an interception and managed an offense that didn’t turn it over once.

**8 – Nick Harwell:** He runs so smoothly, so efficiently to get open and does the same to gain yards after the catch. Caught five passes for 63 yards.

**9 – Dexter McDonald:** His man burned him a couple of times but he also made big plays in key spots. Had four pass breakups on a day Kansas had 14.

**10 – Michael Reynolds:** Picked up his Big 12-leading fifth forced fumble and had a sack among his three tackles.
