Kansas guard Kelly Oubre Jr. (12) defends as Kent State center Khaliq Spicer (21) and forward Marquiez Lawrence (20) crash the boards during the first half on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at Allen Fieldhouse.

**1 – Kelly Oubre Jr.:** Ranked No. 12 by rivals.com in the Class of 2014, Oubre played much better than that ranking in the first half, when he scored 16 of his game-high 20 points and made 6 of 6 field goals and 4 of 4 threes. Finished night with seven defensive rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes. Played most of the first half with two fouls and didn’t get his third until the second half.

**2 – Frank Mason III:** Another strong effort from the sophomore point guard, who delivered 14 points, five assists and had just one turnover. Made sure the team played at a faster pace.

**3 – Perry Ellis:** Had 15 points and eight rebounds, an encouraging performance from the junior, who hasn’t yet hit stride.

**4 – Cliff Alexander:** Played five invisible minutes in the first half, but delivered eight points, three rebounds and two blocked shots in eight second-half minutes. Was rewarded for running the floor hard when he threw home a lob from Wayne Selden Jr., triggering big reaction from crowd.

**5 – Wayne Selden Jr.:** Didn’t let another poor shooting night (1 for 7 from the field, 0 for 2 from three, 3 of 6 from the line) keep him from making winning plays. Three of his four rebounds came off the offensive glass and had five assists, a block and a steal.

**6 – Landen Lucas:** Fought his way to seven rebounds in 15 minutes.

**7 – Jamari Traylor:** Made up for rough, rough first half by cashing in when Ellis was doubled. Also had a strong drive to the hoop that he finished. Finished with eight points and three rebounds in 21 minutes. Turned it over three times.

**8 – Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk:** Made just 1 of 4 shots and missed his only three, which looked from the release as if it would settle softly into the net and looked good all the way until it somehow popped out.

**9 – Hunter Mickelson:** Had trouble containing 7-foot-4 Blake Vedder at end of game. Then again, who doesn’t? Vedder fired in a three-pointer and a baseline jumper, giving him five points on the night and seven on the season. He celebrated his three by flashing the popular three sign (with last three fingers, thumb and index forming a circle) with both hands, hip-high. Mickelson didn’t score, but blocked a shot that triggered a break and resulted in Mykhailiuk dunking it to the delight of the crowd. Mickelson hit the floor for a loose ball in the final minute, when he was the only scholarship player on the floor. Nice touch.

**10 – Brannen Greene:** Took as bad a shot as a KU player has taken all season, a tightly guarded, deep three. Played just seven minutes, had two points, two rebounds and two assists.
