Marcus, Xavier battle it out for top spot against ISU

1. Xavier Henry: Had 16 points and two offensive boards and played well during the game's decisive stretch.

2. Marcus Morris: Finished with 11 points and 10 boards and again played well defensively.

3. Cole Aldrich: Faced double-teams all night and still finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

4. Tyrel Reed: Seven points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and great energy on defense made this a terrific all-around performance for the Burtlington native.

5. Sherron Collins: Made just 4 of 14 shots and 3 of 10 three-pointers but dished five assists without turning it over. Missed a wide-open layup for what quite possibly was the only time in his career.

6. Tyshawn Taylor: Horrible first half. Great second half. Scored all seven of his points in 10 second-half minutes.

7. Jeff Withey: Nice running hook shot. Very nice.

8. Elijah Johnson: Brought good energy and contributed two points and two rebounds in six minutes.

9. Markieff Morris: Took a couple of bad shots, but did pick up six rebounds.

10. Brady Morningstar: Too much arc on his three-point shot made him misfire on all four attempts. Had just two points in 17 minutes.

Brady's non-shooting impressed me tonight. He had a nice drive, then kick out in the first half. He also grabbed an offensive board that he had no business getting, and a nice steal and layup.

Good to see EJ get some PT. And I think Withey is going to fill Coles shoes nicely when Cole leaves.

Withey's definitely getting big under Hudy's watch. I want to see a side-by-side before/after picture of him.

Marcus as #2? He took twice as many shots to score the same number of points as Cole. He did play well on defense, but no better than anyone else (save for the last few minutes when Brackins was just bombing threes).

Withey is a joy to watch because it keeps Cole out of trouble, knowing that Cole can come back in whenever Self wants him back in. The improvement of Withey is vital to the Jayhawks success if they want to go deep into the Dance. X continues to do good things to vault out of his slump. Hope he continues to improve. EJ looked good for the minutes he played. I think his attitude is great!

Agree with aralls:

Brady's shot wasn't falling today, but he did several other nice things in this game. That cross over that lead to the dish and assist on the Collins' three was just a thing of beauty. He looked like Sherron with the way he made his defender trip all over himself.

Of course, #11 on Iowa State couldn't guard his own shorts.

I'd love to see another 20 something game from X against A&M.

I can honestly say I've never seen a game like Withey's (in a Kansas uni). He's as active a 7 footer as I can remember. Once he starts getting the minutes his game is going to explode on a national level. He's a PF, not a C. All sorts of mid-range game. He'll move straight up the Keegan ratings by tourney time. Easily passing Kief, Reed, and Taylor into 7th for Big 12 play.

Jesse, for the most part, I agree with your rankings. The top four are spot on.

Not enough love for BM!!!! It is the intangibles that he gives the team that dont give him the opportunity to always score! BUT LOW MAN ON YOUR TOTEM POLE? SC missed 10 shots......What words of wisdom do you have for SC?

X was my "Hawk to Rock" this game. I knew he'd come through. I bet he does it again.
