After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)
1. Sherron Collins: Had more turnovers (six) than points (five) in the first half, but played far better over the final 20 minutes and finished with 25 points and eight turnovers.
2. Cole Aldrich: Had 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in 36 minutes. He needs help underneath and he’s not getting it.
3. Tyrel Reed: Got hot late and finished with 10 points. Surprisingly, missed both free throw attempts.
4. Brady Morningstar: Five points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and no turnovers in 29 minutes. He was far from the solution, but not the problem.
5. Quintrell Thomas: Didn’t score, but did contribute two rebounds in six minutes.
6. Travis Releford: He hustled enough defensively to play 21 scoreless minutes.
7. Mario Little: His leg’s not right yet, though he still can rebound (three boards). Defensively, he’s not ready. It took him all of seven minutes of action to foul out.
8. Markieff Morris: It took him all of 14 minutes of action to foul out.
9. Tyshawn Taylor: Had two points and two turnovers in 18 minutes.
10. Tyrone Appleton: Played one minute in the first half.
11. Marcus Morris: Did not get a rebound. Then again, he earned just eight minutes of playing time.
