Record-setter Collins tops ratings

By Staff     Feb 3, 2009

After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)

1. Sherron Collins: Totaled 17 points and six assists, had just two turnovers and played strong defense in a 39-minute effort. He set the school’s consecutive free throws made record along the way.

2. Markieff Morris: Played his most aggressive game, pitching in with nine points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots in 19 minutes.

3. Mario Little: In 13 minutes, had 12 points and three rebounds.

4. Marcus Morris: Scored the team’s first eight points of the second half and finished with 13 points and six rebounds.

5. Cole Aldrich: Had nine points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots and was limited to 28 minutes because of foul trouble.

6. Brady Morningstar: Played 40 minutes and had a huge hand in keeping sharp-shooter LaceDarius Dunn from having a big night. Morningstar also hit 2 of 3 three-point shots, improving his long-range accuracy rate to .458.

7. Tyshawn Taylor: Is 0 for 6 on three-pointers in the past five games and continues to turn it over too often.

8. Tyrel Reed: Again hit a big shot when Baylor made its run, but also had a pair of turnovers.
