Keegan Ratings: ‘Sparky’ tops class again

By Staff     Sep 21, 2008

_After each KU football game this season, this is where you can find out the gridiron equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Top 10 Jayhawk individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second-best gets nine points. Third-best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)_**1. Todd Reesing:** His scramble before completing an on the-money 57-yard touchdown pass to Dezmon Briscoe in the end zone makes the first minute of his all-time highlight film, which is saying something. **2. Kerry Meier:** Showed his speed burning for 68-yard touchdown and had eight receptions for 136 yards. **3. Dezmon Briscoe:** Didn’t get the start because of shoddy blocking, but came up with a big night, getting five catches for 124 yards. **4. Darrell Stuckey:** Seven tackles, an interception and another ball who batted that ended in the hands of teammate Justin Thornton for an interception. **5. Jake Laptad:** Active from the defensive end position, the sophomore from Oklahoma powerhouse Jenks High had four tackles and one sack. He has the potential to develop into the sack monster the team lacks. **6. Alonso Rojas:** Knocked a punt to the 4-yard line. **7. Angus Quigley:** Rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown. **8. Jocques Crawford:** Rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown. **9. Raimond Pendleton:** Earned the start in part because Mark Mangino was making a point that receivers have to block well to play. Pendleton blocked well and caught three passes. **10. No selection.****The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points)** **1.** Todd Reesing (31 points) **2.** Kerry Meier (30 points) **3.** Dezmon Briscoe (26 points) **4.** Darrell Stuckey (19 points) **5.** Daymond Patterson (18 points) **6.** Alonso Rojas (16 points) **7.** Angus Quigley (14 points) **8.** Jake Laptad (11 points) **9. **Johnathan Wilson (9 points) **10.** Mike Rivera (8 points) ** 11. **James Holt (6 points) **12.** Joe Mortensen (5 points) **T13.** Jacob Branstetter (4 points) **T13.** Chris Harris (4 points) **T13.** Phillip Strozier (4 points) **T16.**Jocques Crawford (3 points) **T16.** Caleb Blakesley (3 points) **T18.**Raimond Pendleton (2 points) **T18.** Kendrick Harper (2 points) **T18.** Tim Biere (2 points) **T21.** Arist Wright (1 point) **T21.** Jeremiah Hatch (1 point) **T21. **No selection (1 point)
