Keegan Ratings: Reesing No. 1 for 2nd straight week

By Staff     Sep 13, 2008

_After each KU football game this season, this is where you can find out the gridiron equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Top 10 Jayhawk individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second-best gets nine points. Third-best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)_**1. Todd Reesing:** He showed why Kansas is an awfully tough team to knock out. Scrambling, ducking, pump-faking, whatever he needed to do to evade a relentless rush, he did it. He brought Kansas back from a two-touchdown deficit and it wasn’t until his 51st pass was intercepted that he made a mistake. **2. Johnathan Wilson:** Teammates knew what they were doing in voting him the most likely to surprise. Wilson caught 10 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns. **3. Kerry Meier:** Showed great hands while keeping his feet inbounds on one reception and again flashed velcro going way up to catch a wobbly pass, the key play of a late scoring drive. Had 11 catches for 120 yards. **4. Angus Quigley:** Carried the ball just three times, which was enough to lead the team in rushing for the third week in a row. Gained 20 yards on draw play, moving team within range to try to throw a pass into field goal range on final possession. Earlier, got most of a 14-yard touchdown reception on his own. **5. James Holt:** Did nice work on special teams and led team in tackles with 12.5, including three for 18 yards in losses. **6. Darrell Stuckey:** Was active early in the game. **7. Jacob Branstetter:** Doesn’t have a very strong foot on kickoffs, but has been automatic on short field goals, including kicks of 30 and 28 yards in this game. Missed extra point in Week 2 was the result of a bad hold. **8. Alonso Rojas:** Averaged 44.2 yards per punt. **9. Tim Biere:** First catch of his career was for a first down covering 10 yards. **10. Arist Wright:** Made the tackle on the game’s opening kickoff even though his helmet flew off much earlier in the play.**The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points)** **T1.** Kerry Meier (21 points) **T1.** Todd Reesing (21 points) **T3.** Dezmon Briscoe (18 points) **T3.** Daymond Patterson (18 points) **5.** Darrell Stuckey (12 points) **6.** Alonso Rojas (11 points) **7.** Angus Quigley (10 points) **8. **Johnathan Wilson (9 points) **9.** Mike Rivera (8 points) ** 10. **James Holt (6 points) **T11.** Joe Mortensen (5 points) **T11.** Jake Laptad (5 points) **T13.** Jacob Branstetter (4 points) **T13.** Chris Harris (4 points) **T13.** Phillip Strozier (4 points) **16.** Caleb Blakesley (3 points) **T17.** Kendrick Harper (2 points) **T17.** Tim Biere (2 points) **T19.** Arist Wright (1 point) **T19.** Jeremiah Hatch (1 point)
