Morningstar earns top spot on Keegan’s list

By Staff     Dec 24, 2008

After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)

1. Brady Morningstar: Largely responsible for holding Chase Budinger to five points and hit a pair of three-pointers.

2. Sherron Collins: Somebody has to be second. Had trouble finishing his drives and committed four turnovers. Finished with team-high 16 points.

3. Marcus Morris: Had 12 points and five boards, but was much better in the first half than the second.

4. Tyshawn Taylor: Had a strong first half and a poor second half. Made a pair of three-pointers, scored nine points and had three assists and one turnover on a bad cross-court pass that sailed out of bounds.

5. Markieff Morris: Had seven points, seven rebounds and four assists but didn’t serve as much of a roadblock defensively.

6. Cole Aldrich: Jordan Hill (23 points, 11 rebounds) had his way and Aldrich managed just 10 points and four rebounds.

7. Travis Releford: Had two offensive rebounds in eight minutes.

8. Tyrel Reed: Not his night, he made 1 of 4 three-point shots.

9. Tyrone Appleton: Played one minute.

10. Quintrell Thomas: Played one minute.
