The Keegan Ratings: Sherron wins Border War

By Staff     Jan 16, 2007

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the basketball equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawks’ individual performances from top to bottom, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch and who has seen better days. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel._ **1. Sherron Collins**: Ultra-aggressive, accurate shooting from long range and on hard drives, Collins scored 23 points in 26 minutes and clearly was the best player on the floor.**2. Brandon Rush**: Had a rough shooting night and had trouble negotiating his way through all the screens Mizzou set for sharp-shooter Matt Lawrence, but in the end, Rush played strong defense, especially on the final possession. He blocked three shots and finished second on the team in scoring with 16 points. **3. Darrell Arthur**: Awakening from a quiet night, Arthur scored seven of KU’s final 19 points and blocked two consecutive shots in a late possession. **4. Russell Robinson**: Made 2-of-3 from long range and both were huge shots. He also mixed in three steals and seven assists. He threw the ball away on KU’s final possession, tainting an otherwise solid performance. ** 5. Julian Wright**: Missed a couple of easy shots early and let the ball slip through his hands more than once. He didn’t seem to have as good a game as his statistical line (six points, 10 rebounds, five assists, one turnover). Did a nice job of passing from the high post against Missouri’s zone defense. **6. Sasha Kaun**: The fast pace of the game didn’t suit his limitations, but he still made enough happen (nine points, seven rebounds) to warrant 25 minutes of playing time. **7. Darnell Jackson**: With two seconds remaining on the shot clock in a first half possession, Jackson took a broken play and turned it into a swished 15-footer. Putting the ball on the deck in traffic down low, though, is never a good idea. He and other KU big men were guilty of that. **8. Mario Chalmers**: KU’s most consistent performer to date had a rare off-night with five turnovers and one assist in 21 minutes. Has not yet made a three-point shot in Big 12 play, going 0-for-6. **9. Rodrick Stewart**: His steal near midcourt helped the cause and his four minutes were needed because of the fast pace of the game.**The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points and average rank)** **1.** Mario Chalmers (60, 18 games) 3.33 **2.** Brandon Rush (61, 18 games) 3.39 (**_Breaks second place tie with Wright)_**) **3.** Julian Wright (64, 18 games) 3.56 **4.** Darrell Arthur (76, 18 games) 4.22 **5.** Sherron Collins (88, 18 games) 4.89 **6.** Russell Robinson (94, 18 games) 5.22 **7.** Sasha Kaun (81, 15 games) 5.40 **8.** Darnell Jackson (110, 18 games) 6.11 **9.** Rodrick Stewart (122, 14 games) 8.71 **10.** Brady Morningstar (67, 7 games) 9.57 **11.** Jeremy Case (77, 8 games) 9.63 **12.** Matt Kleinmann (73, 7 games) 10.43 **13.** Brennan Bechard (51, 4 games) 12.75 **14.** Brad Witherspoon (53, 4 games) 13.25
