The Keegan Ratings: And the winner is…Mario (again)

By Staff     Jan 7, 2007

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the basketball equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawks’ individual performances from top to bottom, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch and who has seen better days. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel._**1. Mario Chalmers**: He’s doing it all and has developed into the team’s best, most consistent performer. When the shot clock dwindles, Chalmers takes it upon himself to get a shot off or find one for someone else. He’s in attack mode all the time now, is shooting well and making great decisions. Tear-drops, three-pointers, break-aways. He’s bringing it all. His five steals didn’t hurt the cause, either.**2. Darrell Arthur**: He buried his shooting slump by making 8-of-12 shots, ranging from dunks to tightly contested face-up jumpers to hook shots. He also supplied some timely help defense.**3. Brandon Rush**: He missed a couple of open three-pointers late, but other than that played a terrific all-around game with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. How many defenders in the nation can boast that they shut down Joakim Noah during a key stretch of a victory and during other games, including against South Carolina, played at the top of the 3-2 zone?**4. Julian Wright**: A non-stop hustler, Wright scored only six points, but didn’t miss a shot and collected seven rebounds and four steals.**5. Sasha Kaun**: Hit the boards hard (six rebounds in 14 minutes), played strong defense and, as usual, set some strong picks. Missed a dunk, but got the rebound and banked in a hook shot.**6. Russell Robinson**: Had one sloppy stretch that resulted in a stay on bench and showed questionable judgment in launching a pair of three-point shots that missed, but for the most part was steady at both ends of the court.**7. Sherron Collins**: Didn’t have his normal three-point touch working (0-for-3), but picked up the pace by pushing the ball up the floor.**8. Darnell Jackson**: Picked up a pair of boards and was in the middle of the action, hustling as he always does.**9. Rodrick Stewart**: Limited to two minutes. **10. Jeremy Case**: Made a cameo appearance.**The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (Average rank)** **1.** Julian Wright 3.00 **2.** Mario Chalmers 3.13 **3.** Brandon Rush 3.80 **4.** Darrell Arthur 4.00 **T-5.** Sherron Collins 5.27 **T-5.** Russell Robinson 5.27 **7.** Sasha Kaun 5.83 **8.** Darnell Jackson 5.93 **9.** Rodrick Stewart 8.67 **10.** Brady Morningstar 9.33 **11.** Jeremy Case 9.57 **12.** Matt Kleinmann 10.12 **13.** Brennan Bechard 12.67 **14.** Brad Witherspoon 13.00
