The Keegan Ratings: Brandon a mainstay in blowout

By Staff     Feb 17, 2007

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the basketball equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawks’ individual performances from top to bottom, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch and who has seen better days. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel._**1. Brandon Rush**: As seems to be happening with regularity lately, Rush was the best player on the floor. He didn’t force a thing, took only eight shots and still wound up with 13 points. He didn’t turn the ball over once and had eight rebounds and two steals. Rush ranks second to Texas A&M’s Josh Carter in the Big 12 with a .464 three-point shooting percentage.**2. Julian Wright**: He made a couple of defensive mistakes early, but played under control at the other end and finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.**3. Mario Chalmers**: On consecutive possessions, he stripped his man of the ball and took to the other end for a two-handed dunk, then stepped into the passing lane and found Darnell Jackson under the hoop for a dunk.**4. Sherron Collins**: It seems as if nobody can stop him from getting to the lane. Save for a couple of forced shots, he made good things happen once he got there. Plus he popped in three three-pointers.**5. Darrell Arthur**: He showed good range and strong hands in making five of six field goals. Most important: He committed just one personal foul in 20 minutes.**6. Russell Robinson**: Didn’t shoot it well and took a shot he shouldn’t have, but otherwise played well, picking up eight assists and three steals with one turnover.**7. Darnell Jackson**: Continues to hit the boards hard, with six rebounds in 17 minutes. And how smooth was that hook shot off the glass?**8. Sasha Kaun**: Whistled for two phantom fouls early, he sat the final 18 minutes of the first half. Played well against Aleks Maric and remained calm when receiving the ball in the post. His hook shot looked as good as it has all season.**9. Jeremy Case**: Nine points, two assists, one steal and no turnovers in eight minutes. Case entered in the first half and then late in the second half hit a pair of three-pointers and ran the point flawlessly.**10. Rodrick Stewart**: Buried a three-point shot and finished with four points.**11. Matt Kleinmann**: Had two points and two rebounds.**12. Brennan Bechard**: His parents were in Las Vegas on a volleyball recruiting trip, so they didn’t get to see him score for the first time. He nailed a three-pointer and mixed in an assist.**13. Brad Witherspoon**: Orders were hollered from the bench to not try to score on the final possession, but Case didn’t hear them and fed Witherspoon in the post for a bank shot, his first collegiate bucket.**The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points and average rank)** **1.** Brandon Rush (87, 27 games) 3.22 **2.** Julian Wright (96, 27 games) 3.56 **3.** Mario Chalmers (104, 27 games) 3.85 **4.** Sherron Collins (118, 27 games) 4.37 **5.** Russell Robinson (127, 27 games) 4.70 **6.** Darrell Arthur (128, 27 games) 4.74 **7.** Sasha Kaun (140, 24 games) 5.83 **8.** Darnell Jackson (162, 27 games) 6.00 **9.** Rodrick Stewart (195, 21 games) 9.29 **10.** Jeremy Case (141, 15 games) 9.40 **11.** Brady Morningstar (114, 12 games) 9.50 **12.** Matt Kleinmann (143, 13 games) 11.00 **13.** Brennan Bechard (112, 9 games) 12.44 **14.** Brad Witherspoon (107, 8 games) 13.38
