The Keegan Ratings: Wright this way to Vegas

By Staff     Nov 22, 2006

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the basketball equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawks’ individual performances from top to bottom, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch and who has seen better days. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel._**1. Julian Wright**: Everything he does is so quick. Quick jumper, quick rebounder, quick decision-maker, sometimes too quick. In the first half, his quick decisions and no-look passes were right on the money. He grew a little too fancy in the second half, but overall gave the team an energetic edge. **2. Sherron Collins**: Scored 13 first-half points in an eight-and-a-half minute explosion, in which he attempted only five shots. He’s made 8 of 16 three-point shots so far. **3. Brandon Rush**: Played only 23 minutes, time enough to produce a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. **4. Mario Chalmers**: Missed all five three-point shots , but made life miserable for the Tennessee State guards at the other end. Had five steals in 25 minutes. **5. Darnell Jackson**: Might have ranked higher but for four missed free throws in seven attempts. Works hard to get open underneath, has a nice touch, and dives for loose balls. **6. Russell Robinson**: At one point, Darrell Arthur roamed the baseline from one side of the lane to the other, open the whole time, and Robinson never got him the ball. Still, he and Chalmers teamed up defensively, as usual, to trigger the fastbreak. For the season, Robinson has 32 assists, eight turnovers and 15 steals. **7. Sasha Kaun**: The crowd went wild when Kaun checked in to make his season debut. As pre-planned per doctors orders, playing time (nine minutes) was limited, but played enough to score seven points. Made all three free throws. Repeat, made all three free throws. **8. Darrell Arthur**: Committed three personal fouls in four first-half minutes. Played well when he was on the court with 10 points and four boards in 12 minutes. **9. Jeremy Case**: Hit a three-pointer, mixed in an assist and brought close-game type intensity during garbage time. **10. Rodrick Stewart**: Hit a three-point shot and picked up an assist in eight minutes. **11. Brady Morningstar**: Had a wide-open jumper and passed it up because he saw Darrell Arthur open for a higher-percentage shot. Clanked his only shot. **12. Matt Kleinmann**: Picked up two boards in seven minutes. **13. Brennan Bechard**: Prediction: Performed better than his father’s volleyball team will in its next game because mighty Nebraska is in town for a match. Scrapped for a defensive rebound off a missed free throw. **14. Brad Witherspoon**: Got a shot off, but missed it.
