Surahz Buncom, a wide receiver who has emerged as one of the Kansas football coaches’ top recruiting targets in the Class of 2023, wrote on Twitter on Monday that the Jayhawks are among his top five schools and that he will be choosing one on Saturday.
Buncom, from Mater Dei Catholic High in Chula Vista, California, is considering Kansas alongside Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado and Duke. He was scheduled to take an official visit to Kansas on June 22, but JayhawkSlant.com reported that he has decided to instead do so on Saturday.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound, three-star wide receiver made an unofficial visit to Kansas on March 5 for a junior day event. He also earned scholarships from Boise State, BYU, Nevada, Colorado State and Kansas State, among others.
He caught 30 passes for 467 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns for Mater Dei Catholic, which went 13-0 and won California’s Class 2-AA state title last season. He also won the 100 meters in the South Bay League track and field championships last month by running it in 11.46 seconds.
Buncom is one of several players who will be making official visits to Kansas beginning Saturday, according to JayhawkSlant.com. Free State offensive tackle Calvin Clements and Highland Park wide receiver Tre Richardson are among them, as are Logan Brantley, a linebacker from Englewood, Colorado; Keaton Kubecka, a wide receiver from Austin, Texas; and Arian Parish, a safety from Katy, Texas.
Kansas has not yet received a commitment from any players in the Class of 2023, making it the only Big 12 school without one.
