Two former Kansas football players earned Super Bowl rings as members of the victorious Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, meant a happy ending to the rookie seasons of offensive linemen Bryce Cabeldue and Logan Brown.
The Jayhawks’ two starting offensive tackles from the 2024 season reunited in Seattle this fall when Brown joined the Seahawks’ practice squad in late September. He had spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns after entering the league as an undrafted free agent. Brown did not play in a game this year.
Cabeldue, a sixth-round pick of the Seahawks’ in the draft last spring, ended the season by being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury prior to the conference championship game against the Los Angeles Rams. He appeared in eight games during the regular season as part of Seattle’s climb to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. According to Pro Football Focus, Cabeldue saw 56 snaps on the year, 24 of which came on offense — he has converted to guard at the professional level — and 32 on special teams.
The 6-foot-4, 306-pound lineman from Clovis, New Mexico, spent five seasons with the Jayhawks beginning in 2020. He started at right tackle for the first three years of the Lance Leipold era, then swapped sides with Brown to protect Jalon Daniels’ blind side in 2024. He was an All-Big 12 honorable mention that season.
Brown, listed at 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, was a highly touted recruit out of East Kentwood High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He started his career in 2019 at Wisconsin and spent four seasons as a rotational player with the Badgers, then transferred to KU and missed most of 2023 due to injury. Given the chance to contribute at right tackle in 2024, he started 11 games and earned second-team all-conference honors.
Brown and Cabeldue are the first Jayhawks to win the Super Bowl since Chris Harris and Aqib Talib in 2016.
Former record-setting Baker quarterback Mack Brown, the tight ends coach for the Seahawks, also won a ring on Sunday.
