The Kansas football team earned its second commitment at the tight end position in the span of a week when Luke Gazzaniga announced that he will join the Jayhawks.
Gazzaniga made his decision public through an Instagram post in partnership with 247Sports on Thursday afternoon. A three-star prospect, he is listed at 6-foot-4 and 232 pounds and attends Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.
Gazzaniga picked the Jayhawks over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Duke, SMU, Utah and others. His commitment closely follows that of fellow tight end Mason Oglesby, of New Palestine, Indiana, who chose KU on May 22. The Jayhawks’ 2027 freshman class is now up to eight players.
During his junior season at Santa Margarita Catholic, Gazzaniga caught 20 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns, according to a post he made on X. The Eagles, who were coached by former NFL quarterback Carson Palmer in his first season, won a state championship.
Gazzaniga reportedly went on a previous visit to SMU and will soon make the trip to KU.
“I was pretty confident because the offensive coordinator and the tight ends coach made me feel at home in our conversations,” Gazzaniga told Adam Gorney of Rivals. “It felt like people I could trust and just be around and I’m going to spend a lot of time with them so they’re people I can have fun being around.”
Gazzaniga and Oglesby will help KU get younger at the tight end position after the Jayhawks brought in both Kevin Sullivan and Jack Utz in the class of 2026. They are set to graduate five redshirt seniors, three of whom are on scholarship (Jailen Butler, Leyton Cure and Carter Moses), following the 2026 season. Redshirt sophomore Carson Bruhn is the headliner among players with remaining eligibility for the years ahead.
