Kansas may have a new candidate for its recently vacated offensive tackle spot.
Former Cal tackle Nick Morrow committed to the Jayhawks on Friday, according to multiple reports. JayhawkSlant was first to report the news, which gives KU a veteran option to start opposite Calvin Clements.
Morrow has 16 starts to his name at left tackle over the course of the last two seasons with the Bears. The 6-foot-8, 315-pound lineman, who played primarily tight end and defensive end in high school in Flagstaff, Arizona, initially joined Cal as part of the recruiting class of 2022, but he greyshirted — in other words, delayed his enrollment by a year. He then redshirted in 2023 and did not play.
Morrow found himself thrust into a much more significant role in 2024 as a day-one starter at left tackle, protecting the blind side of Fernando Mendoza long before Mendoza rose to become the Heisman winner at Indiana. He played 672 snaps on offense, according to Pro Football Focus, with a grade of 56.0 in 11 games before he missed the last two due to injury.
He returned to Cal for his redshirt sophomore season in 2025, but his playing time was far more erratic, even as he managed to appear in all 13 games. There was a string of games midway through the season in which he played two or fewer offensive snaps for three straight weeks, and then by the end of the year he was back in the starting lineup with 76, 76, 84 and finally 73 snaps in the Bears’ Hawaii Bowl loss.
Morrow has the potential to contribute greatly to the Jayhawks’ offensive line during his remaining two seasons of eligibility. The salient question will be who moves to the right side between him and Calvin Clements if both are to start immediately, as both players have essentially exclusively worked at left tackle, and KU hasn’t been afraid to switch things around in the past.
The rest of the offensive line is shaping up nicely, with Texas transfer Connor Stroh joining returning guards Amir Herring and Tavake Tuikolovatu on the interior. In addition, KU is reportedly getting a visit from Cal Poly transfer center Racin Delgatty; if the Jayhawks could reel in the highly coveted player, it could allow Herring to stay at guard. KU also recently got a commitment from a developmental transfer lineman, Trezelle Jenkins Jr. of Wayne State.
