Former Georgia Tech defensive back Christian Pritchett has committed to join the Kansas football team, the Journal-World confirmed on Wednesday night.

The safety from Harvey, Louisiana, will have two seasons left to play after working primarily on special teams during his two years with the Yellow Jackets. He is the latest transfer to commit in short order following a visit to Lawrence.

“They came in with open arms,” Pritchett told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “Coach (Brandon) Shelby made me feel like I’d been there before. I like his energy and how you go through the film room, trying to see what he knows about me, and I get to learn what I know about him. He’s just a good coach. I know that I can get better under him, and I was just looking for a new opportunity, and that was there.”

In making the move from Atlanta to Lawrence, Pritchett follows another onetime Georgia Tech defensive back in Syeed Gibbs, who played his first season at KU as a rotational cornerback in 2025.

Pritchett attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, where he played quarterback for much of his career before moving to safety. He was a three-star prospect and picked Tech over Duke, Indiana and others in the class of 2024.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back saw fairly significant playing time on a good team as a true freshman. He played 170 snaps in 11 games, according to Pro Football Focus, the vast majority coming on special teams. Then that workload dwindled to 46 snaps in five games as a sophomore.

In his career, Pritchett has eight total tackles, four in each of his first two seasons.

Now he will head to KU, following in the footsteps of not only Gibbs, but also a safety from a rival school in Georgia’s Jaden Harris, who committed to KU on Monday. Pritchett, by the way, had been slated to visit Boise State as well before picking the Jayhawks.

“It’s a blessing,” Pritchett told Kirby. “I can’t thank God enough for opening doors. He closed doors for me, and He’s going to open doors for me. I’m just ready to work, put my head down and showcase my ability.”

The safety group features Pritchett and Harris, key returnees Taylor Davis and Mason Ellis and freshmen Darrion Jones and Brandon Schmelzle.
