Kansas is swiftly restocking its linebacker group after a series of offseason departures.
New Mexico State transfer Quincy Davis announced on Monday afternoon that he will transfer to KU, and former South Carolina linebacker Jaron Willis shared the news that he was joining the Jayhawks on his Instagram page after it was initially reported by JayhawkSlant.
They became the second and third linebacker transfers to join KU in two days after Landyn Watson, a veteran who previously played at TCU, Marshall and Kentucky.
The Jayhawks have a lot of production to replace in the position group following the portal losses of middle linebackers Trey Lathan and Joseph Sipp Jr. and weak-side linebackers Logan Brantley and Jon Jon Kamara, as well as the graduation of Bangally Kamara.
Willis follows Bangally Kamara in making the move to KU from South Carolina, although like Kamara he had started his career elsewhere. He was a four-star prospect in the 2022 freshman class who attended Ole Miss out of Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, but he only played one game for the Rebels before transferring to join the Gamecocks.
In 2023, his first season at South Carolina, he earned 40 defensive snaps, per Pro Football Focus, and some special-teams opportunities late in the year and made a pair of tackles; he appeared slightly less the following year. As a redshirt junior, he saw his most extensive action with 74 defensive plays and 49 on special teams. He recorded seven tackles and recovered two fumbles. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, he will have one year of eligibility remaining when he joins the Jayhawks.
Davis, who is 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, went to New Mexico State from powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas in the class of 2023 and redshirted during his freshman year. The following season he played all 12 games with one start and had 19 tackles with a pass breakup. Then, in 2025, he garnered 314 defensive snaps, per PFF, with 43 tackles, including one for loss.
He will have two years left to play at KU, and he joins the sixth-year senior Watson and fifth-year senior Willis, redshirt freshman Malachi Curvey and incoming freshman signees Joseph Credit and Josh Galbreath in position coach Chris Simpson’s group.
KU is now up to seven overall transfer commitments, five of which are on the defensive side of the ball, through four days since the portal opened on Friday.
