Kansas football coach Lance Leipold said in December that the Jayhawks would begin spring practices on Feb. 28, but now we know when they will end, as well.
KU on Monday announced the date for this year’s spring football game, dubbed the Spring Showcase, which sounds like it will be part spring game, part fan fest.
The showcase is slated for 7 p.m. on April 7 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
According to the news release announcing the Spring Showcase, details of fan activities and events will be announced at a later time. The whole thing is being called “an opportunity for fans to see the 2023 Jayhawks up-close while enjoying a day of family fun.”
Admission to the Spring Showcase will be free for all fans and no ticket is required.
Still in the middle of winter workouts, the Jayhawks are gearing up to capitalize on the momentum they gained from their first bowl trip in 14 years during the 2022 season.
Kansas is expected to return 17 of 22 starters on offense and defense, and the Jayhawks, like all teams, have added several newcomers through the transfer portal in recent weeks.
Some of those newcomers are expected to impact special teams, as well, and many of them will have a chance to make an immediate name for themselves with the Jayhawks, whether that’s as a depth piece or in the starting lineup, especially at positions of need like offensive and defensive line.
The 2023 season will open Aug. 31 at Memorial Stadium, when KU plays host to Missouri State at 7 p.m. on a Thursday night.
The rest of the schedule was released last week, and it featured Kansas playing three of the four new programs that will officially be added to the Big 12 Conference this summer — at home against BYU and Central Florida and at Cincinnati. The game with BYU will be KU’s Big 12 opener. It is slated for Sept. 23. No kickoff times have been announced.
