The final remaining scholarship player who saw action for Kansas during the 2024-25 men’s basketball season is now on his way out.
AJ Storr entered the transfer portal on Thursday morning, a KU Athletics official confirmed to the Journal-World.
Storr, a native of Rockford, Illinois, arrived at KU as one of the highest-ranked players in the transfer portal last offseason after he had averaged 16.8 points per game and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, but never delivered on expectations during his time in Lawrence.
He started just four games of the 34 in which he appeared, posting 6.1 points per game on 38.4% shooting and 29.1% beyond the arc, never developing as a rebounder or defender to quite the extent KU had hoped when it acquired him, and saw his time on the floor dwindle steadily late in conference play.
Storr did have a postseason resurgence when he scored a season-high 19 points in the Jayhawks’ overtime victory over UCF in the Big 12 tournament, then added 15 more in the NCAA Tournament loss to Arkansas two games later.
He will now seek his fourth college team after previously playing at Wisconsin and St. John’s; in fact, Storr has played at a different school every year dating back to high school.
The prospective departures of Storr and the five other Jayhawks who have put their names in the portal leave KU with a select few players set to return next year: Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell and early enrollee Bryson Tiller, all three of whom redshirted. Guard Noah Shelby, a former high-ranked recruit who previously played at Vanderbilt and Rice and was a walk-on last season, also remains in Lawrence after a redshirt season of his own. Also joining as freshmen for the 2025-26 season are Samis Calderon and Darryn Peterson.
