A pair of 20-point outings in two Kansas victories earned KU senior Ochai Agbaji his fourth Big 12 Player of the Week honor, the conference announced on Monday.
This one was shared with Iowa State guard Izaiah Brockington, who joined Agbaji in being named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week.
Agbaji averaged 21.5 points and was 13-for-14 from the free throw line in two wins for the fifth-ranked Jayhawks last week.
In a 76-62 victory over Oklahoma State last Monday, the Kansas City, Missouri, senior guard led all scorers with 20 points, which included a career-high nine free throws in 10 trips to the line. Agbaji also had four assists and a game-high three steals against the Cowboys.
In Saturday’s 71-58 road win at West Virginia, Agbaji again led all scorers, with 23 points, including a 3-of-6 shooting clip from 3-point range and four makes in four tries at the free throw line.
In that game, which moved KU to 22-4 overall and 11-2 in Big 12 play with five games remaining in the regular season, Agbaji surpassed 1,400 career points for his career. He currently sits at 1,421 points and has scored 20 or more points in 14 games so far this season.
Agbaji’s latest accolade is the sixth Big 12 weekly honor for a member of Bill Self’s squad this season.
Agbaji was also named Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 15, Jan. 17 and Jan. 24, and junior guard Christian Braun (Dec. 6) and redshirt-sophomore Jalen Wilson (Feb. 14) each earned the honor once.
No. 5 Kansas will play host to in-state rival Kansas State (14-12, 6-8) on at 8 p.m. Tuesday in second installment of this season’s Sunflower Showdown. Kansas won the first meeting, 78-75 in Manhattan, on Jan. 22.
Tuesday’s game will be televised on ESPN.
