Two of the Kansas football team’s veteran leaders proved to be among the most impactful players in the Big 12 this season. When Pro Football Focus announced its all-conference teams this week, KU super-senior defensive end Kyron Johnson and junior safety Kenny Logan Jr. both landed on the second team.
PFF used season grades and advanced statistics to determine which players received the honors.
A fifth-year senior from Arlington, Texas, Johnson led the KU defense with 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hurries, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The veteran edge rusher also finished fourth on the team with 61 total tackles.
Logan, a junior defensive back from St. Augustine, Fla., finished the regular season as the Big 12’s leading tackler, totaling 113 on the year and averaging 9.4 per game. Logan also recorded six pass breakups, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
Additionally, KU super-senior Kwamie Lassiter II picked up honorable mention from PFF, both as a receiver and punt returner.
A former walk-on, Lassiter led the Jayhawks (2-10 overall, 1-8 Big 12) with 59 receptions and 653 receiving yards, and he caught three touchdown passes. On special teams, Lassiter averaged 13.5 yards per return.
