Kansas wide receiver Trevor Wilson is back practicing with the KU football team after charges of aggravated assault were dismissed by a Douglas County District Court judge last week.

KU coach Lance Leipold said Tuesday that Wilson had practiced in each of the past two days and was back participating in full team activities.

What remains unknown at this point for the redshirt junior wideout is whether he’ll travel to Oklahoma with the Jayhawks this weekend for their 11 a.m. matchup with the Sooners on Saturday.

Beyond the issues of team-related punishment — Wilson was suspended indefinitely after his arrest in August — Leipold and the rest of the KU coaching staff are still trying to determine how game ready Wilson is.

“Right now, especially (Monday), (he) obviously has very fresh legs,” Leipold said. “Trevor’s always been one who’s taken his training very seriously. (He) looks to be in very good shape, still have to probably get acclimated to everything.”

After following Leipold to Kansas from Buffalo before the 2021 season, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Tallahassee, Flori-da, started seven games for the Jayhawks a season ago. He finished the season with 364 yards and one touchdown on 27 receptions.

Wilson entered the offseason as a player that many expected to have a meaningful role among KU’s wide receivers. Leipold said after Saturday’s loss to TCU that he was looking forward to getting Wilson back in the mix, adding, “it’s unfortunate that it took that long.”

A lot changed with the Kansas offense in the six games that Wilson missed. Luke Grimm, LJ Arnold and Quentin Skinner all emerged as reliable options in the passing game, and that trio has combined for 748 yards and seven touchdowns on 54 receptions.

No other KU receiver has more than five receptions on the season.

“The biggest thing will be retention,” Leipold said when asked about putting Wilson back on the field. “And, of course, things have been added and tweaked as we’ve progressed through the offense. So, there’s things there, and we’ll see if he is part of this week’s travel or not.”
