The Kansas baseball team began Big 12 play with a series loss to West Virginia at Monongalia County Ballpark this past weekend in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Kansas had no signs of offense in the series opener, suffering a 11-0 defeat on Friday to start the series off. The Jayhawks then split the doubleheader on Saturday, earning a 9-2 win over the Mountaineers in the first game and being on the wrong end of a 15-2 shellacking in the nightcap.

Pitcher Cole Larsen was responsible for the lone victory of the weekend for Kansas. He gave up one run and struck out six batters over eight innings of work, earning his fourth win of the season. His ERA is now down to 0.86, which is the best mark in the Big 12.

To support a prolific pitching performance, Tavian Josenberger, Nolan Metcalf, Tom Lichty and Anthony Tulimero all recorded multi-hit games during the win. They also combined to record six RBI for the Jayhawks.

In the series finale, KU’s two runs came in the top of the sixth off a Jack Wagner single and a wild pitch. Wagner had a multi-hit game in the defeat, going 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Kansas will host Missouri at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
