The Kansas women’s volleyball team’s losing streak reached six matches in a row following a five-set loss to Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., on Friday night.
The victory was Oklahoma’s first of the season. Like Kansas, OU opened the season with back-to-back matches against No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Baylor.
KU’s kills leader, senior Jenny Mosser, missed her third consecutive match for the Jayhawks.
Kansas, which dropped a pair of five-set matches to West Virginia last weekend at home, lost Friday’s match despite winning the first two sets.
KU rolled in Set 1, 25-13, and squeaked out Set 2, 25-23, to take a commanding lead. But the Sooners (1-4) survived with a 25-22 win in Set 3 and outscored Kansas (1-6), 40-29, in the final two sets, including a 25-16 win in Set 4 and a 15-13 thriller in the finale.
KU freshman Ayah Elnady led the Jayhawks in kills with 15 and also recorded 13 digs. Junior Anezka Szabo added 13 kills and freshman Molly Schultz led Kansas with 16 digs.
Freshman Elise McGhie (28) and senior Sara Nielsen (16) combined for 44 assists to pace the KU attack.
Oklahoma now leads the overall series with Kansas, 52-40, including a 27-17 mark in matches played in Norman.
KU and OU will return to the court on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
