For the first time in a decade, no Kansas football players appeared on the Big 12’s postseason all-conference teams.
The first and second teams, unveiled by the Big 12 on Thursday, featured multiple players from every other program, but no Jayhawks, following their 0-9 season.
It marked the first time since 2010 that KU failed to land at least one player on either of the all-Big 12 teams.
Four KU players received honorable mention from the league’s coaches: senior linebacker Kyron Johnson, senior receiver Kwamie Lassiter II, sophomore kick and punt returner Kenny Logan Jr. and freshman defensive back Karon Prunty.
Back in the summer, the Jayhawks had two players on the Big 12 preseason team, as voted on by media members: running back Pooka Williams and receiver Andrew Parchment. Of course, Williams ended up opting out of the 2020 season after four games, and Parchment’s production fell off as the KU offense struggled throughout the season.
A year ago, both Williams and then senior offensive tackle Hakeem Adeniji were first-team selections on the postseason all-Big 12 team. This year was the first time since 2015 KU didn’t have a player on the first team.
In 2020 Big 12 games, KU scored just 14.9 points on average, while the Jayhawks’ opponents put up 47 points a game.
Iowa State swept the major awards in the conference, as the Cyclones’ star running back, Breece Hall, was named the Big 12’s offensive player of the year, linebacker Mike Rose picked up defensive player of the year and Matt Campbell was coach of the year.
