DePaul hands No. 11 KU soccer 1st defeat of season

By Staff     Sep 6, 2019

Ranked No. 11 in the nation, the Kansas soccer team outshot DePaul by 15 on Friday in West Lafayette, Ind. But the Jayhawks lost for the first time this season, 1-0, in the Boilermaker Challenge Cup at Folk Field.

KU (4-1) produced scoring chances with regularity but could not find the back of the net while outshooting DePaul 20-5.

Thirty seconds into the second half, a pass between Jayhawk defenders was cut off by DePaul’s Jade Eriksen-Russo, who sent a scoring goal past KU keeper Sarah Peters.

It was only the second time KU surrendered a goal through five matches.

KU senior Sophie Maierhofer had an opening with just over 30 seconds left in regulation, but her try from 15 yards out sailed just high of the crossbar.

Kansas will face host Purdue at 1 p.m. Sunday.
