For the third time in four seasons and the ninth time in program history, the Kansas soccer team earned a bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship when the field was announced Monday afternoon.
KU will host Iowa in first-round play at 5 p.m. Saturday at Rock Chalk Park. The No. 3-seeded Jayhawks, who earned their first national seed since 2004, automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big 12 Championship title for the first time in program history.
Kansas (15-4-3) has not lost a match since Oct. 3, and the nine-game unbeaten streak is the longest such stretch in program history. The Hawkeyes are making their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history after posting an overall record of 15-4-1.
In addition, a program-record seven Jayhawks were selected to the Big 12 All-Tournament team on Monday. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Peters was named the Defensive Most Outstanding Player after giving up just one goal in three matches.
Senior defenders Addisyn Merrick and junior Isabella Cavalcante also received all-tourney honors. Junior Ceri Holland and sophomore Sam Barnett made the list as midfielders. Forwards Katie McClure and Mandi Duggan rounded out the KU picks.
