Kansas softball earns walk-off win against Baylor

By Staff Report     Mar 30, 2019

Kansas stormed back to earn its second walk-off in as many games to beat Baylor, 9-8, at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks earned their first Big 12 opening game win since March 28, 2014, when Kansas beat Oklahoma State, 1-0, in Lawrence.

Emily Bermel was responsible for the heroics, delivering a game-winning single with two outs to score Jennifer Marwitz.

Down 8-5 in the seventh, KU’s Becki Monaghan reached base on an error. A single by Sydnee Ramsey put runners on first and second before Miranda Rodriguez came through with a timely hit up the middle.

A single by Marwitz in the next at bat scored KU’s second run of the inning. Shelby Hughston put the ball in play and grounded out to the Baylor third baseman, which earned KU the game-tying run.

Hannah Todd pitched the final four innings and earned her second win of the season.
