KU softball falls to Wichita State in extra innings

After a back-and-forth battle all night, the Kansas softball team suffered an 11-10 loss at Wichita State Wednesday night.

WSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second before KU answered immediately with four runs in the top of the third. Kansas claimed its first lead with five runs in the fifth, but Wichita State scored three runs in the sixth.

The Shockers scored the game-winning run with an RBI single in the home half of the ninth to end a riveting clash between in-state foes.

Shelby Hughston and Brittany Jackson each led the Jayhawks with three hits. Morgyn Wynne, Becki Monaghan and Miranda Rodriguez each tallied two hits.

Kansas (8-20) will play host to Green Bay for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday
