The Kansas baseball team split Saturday’s doubleheader with Texas Southern at the Melissa Sports Complex in Melissa, Texas.
In the first game, the Jayhawks outlasted the Tigers in a offensive showcase during a 19-13 win. Following several lead changes, the Jayhawks took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning via a seven-run output. The inning was headlined by junior shortstop Benjamin Sems’ first of two home runs on the day, as well as junior second baseman James Cosentino’s first career inside-the-park home run.
Texas Southern (1-6) bounced back in the night cap, as left-hander Mason Furlong stymied the Jayhawks offense in an 8-3 loss. KU (4-3) was led by freshman Jack Wagner, who recorded two of the team’s five hits in the loss in his first career start.
Kansas and Texas Southern will wrap up the four-game set at 11 a.m. Sunday.
