Kansas track and field thrower Lea Riedel won the women’s shot put at the German U20 Championships, Sunday in Rostock, Germany.

Riedel, who will be a sophomore next year, won the U20 national title with a personal-best throw of 16.08 meters (52-9.25 ft.) to best the next-closest competitor by over a meter. The throw was better than her previous-best mark of 15.24 meters (50-0 ft.), which she achieved at the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to finish in eighth place.

In addition, the new personal best moved Riedel from No. 7 on the Kansas all-time performers list to No. 5.
