Former Kansas men’s golfers Daniel Sutton and Daniel Hudson and KU senior Charlie Hillier were recognized for their studies when they were selected as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
It’s the second consecutive year that KU has had three players earn All-America Scholar status. Sutton, Hudson and Hillier helped the Jayhawks place 23rd at the NCAA Championships last spring.
“I’m really proud of all three of the guys,” Kansas coach Jamie Bermel said in a press release. “Dan Sutton and Dan Hudson are repeat All-America Scholars and both capped off great careers at KU. Charlie is a first-year award winner and it is my hope he can get the award again next year. We preach academics every day and all three have been awarded for their efforts in the classroom and on the golf course.”
Criteria for earning Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors includes being a junior or senior academically, having three or more years of experience of playing golf in college, playing in at least half of your team’s tournaments, shooting 76 or lower for an average round at the Division I level, having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and representing your school in a positive manner.
All three KU golfers were Academic All-Big 12 first team selections. Hudson, a communications major, graduated in May. Sutton will graduate at the end of July with a liberal arts & sciences degree. Hillier, a general studies major, will return to KU this fall for his senior campaign.
