Kansas baseball rips Benedictine

By Staff Reports     Mar 31, 2016

Michael Tinsley went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs, and Kansas University’s baseball team belted Benedictine, 19-7, on Wednesday at Hoglund Ballpark.

The Jayhawks (9-13) built a 10-4 lead after five innings, then scored eight runs in the sixth for an 18-4 advantage. Ty Denzer and Owen Taylor homered for KU, which collected 16 hits. Matt McLaughlin and Tinsley each scored four times for the Jayhawks.

“Our players did a really good job offensively,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “We took advantage of the walks, we worked counts and got the ball elevated. Tinsley had a big day. Hopefully there will be some benefit and carryover into this weekend after playing Tuesday and Wednesday this week.”

The Jayhawks will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Baylor.

Wednesday’s game was added to KU’s schedule after a March 8 game with Creighton was rained out.

Tyler Davis (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the win.
