Kansas University’s Janet Koch, Nina Khmelnitckaia and Maria Jose Cardona claimed singles victories, and KU’s women’s tennis team defeated Texas, 4-3, on Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
It was KU’s first victory over Texas in 28 meetings.
Koch won at No. 3 singles, Khmelnitckaia at No. 4 and Cardona at No. 6. KU also won the doubles point, with Cardona teaming with Summer Collins for a victory at No. 2, and Smith Hinton teaming with Anastasiya Rychagova for a win at No. 3.
“I told the girls, we had lost 27 in a row to Texas, but this team is 1-0 against Texas,” KU head coach Todd Chapman said.
The Jayhawks improved to 12-2, their best start to a season since the 1998 team went 17-2, and they’re 2-0 in Big 12 play.
