Kansas tennis claims four singles wins

Kansas University claimed four singles victories in two tennis tournaments on Friday.

Smith Hinton and Nina Khmelnitckaia won singles matches in the Oklahoma invitational in Norman, Oklahoma.

Hinton defeated Wichita State’s Rebacca Pedrazzi, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, and Khmelnitckaia stopped Tulsa’s Saana Saarteinen, 6-4, 6-1.

Hinton, a sophomore, and Khmelnitckaia, a freshman from Moscow, dropped two doubles matches, falling to Wichita State’s Pedrazzi and Aleksandra Trifunovic, 7-5, and to North Texas’ Anastasiya Shestakova and Agustina Valenzuela, 6-4.

Hinton and Khmelnitckaia will return to singles play at 9 a.m. today.

KU’s Summer Collins and Janet Koch picked up victories Friday at the Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Collins defeated Marta Milutinovic of Ole Miss, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (1), and Koch downed Memphis’ Janina Berres, 7-6, 6-4.

Collins and Maria Jose Cardona went 1-1 in doubles, as did Koch-Anastasiya Rychagova.

Cardona and Rychagova lost their singles matches.

The Little Rock tournament also resumes today.
