Ashley Pankey scored two goals in the final 12 minutes as Kansas University pulled away from a scoreless halftime tie to claim a 3-0 soccer victory over South Dakota State on Friday night at Rock Chalk Park.
“We really wanted to finish this portion of the year off (nonconference) in the right way, and I think we did that tonight,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We really had a great attack in the second half after we made some adjustments at halftime, and that was really nice to see. I was also really pleased that we were able to get the shutout.”
Kansas, which won its third straight, improved to 5-4-1. The Jackrabbits have the same record.
With her second goal in two games, senior Ashley Williams gave Kansas the only score it would need just over two minutes into the second half.
Pankey scored insurance goals with 12 minutes and 7 minutes to play. They were the first goals of the junior’s collegiate career.
Kansas goalkeeper Maddie Dobyns recorded the shutout in goal.
The Jayhawks will kick off Big 12 play Friday when they host Texas. Game time will be 7 p.m. at RCP.
