Pearland, Texas ? Tied for first after the opening round, the Kansas University men’s golf team finds itself in third place heading into today’s final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at the Golfcrest Country Club outside Houston.
The Jayhawks (14-over) trail leader North Texas by 14 strokes and second-place Lamar by eight after two rounds Monday.
“We played pretty solid for the first 30 holes, and the last six holes we were 8-over par on the counting scores,” KU coach Jamie Bermel said. “Ben Welle played well today and had a very good two-round total of 141.”
Welle had a two-day score of 141 (3-under) and was in fourth place. Also competing for Kansas are Charlie Hillier (4-over), tied for 21st, Chase Hanna (6-over) tied for 31st, Connor Peck (8-over) tied for 42nd and Spencer Painton (10-over) tied for 56th.
