Two Kansas University football players — linebacker Ben Heeney and wide receiver Nick Harwell — competed in college all-star games Saturday.
Heeney was unofficially credited with six tackles for the West team in a 19-3 loss in the East-West Shrine at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Harwell hauled in two catches for 15 yards in his National team’s 17-0 victory at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
“I really enjoyed the experience I had here this week,” Heeney said about the Shrine game. “As far as the football part goes, it was a little different than I expected. It was a pretty intense environment. Visiting the Shriners Hospital and meeting all of the great people involved with that side of the week was also amazing. I learned a lot, and it meant a lot to me to be able to put a smile on some of the kids’ faces.”
Heeney saw action on both defense and special teams for the West team.
