KU’s Welle 16th, but team in 8th

By Staff Reports     Apr 29, 2015

? Kansas University junior Ben Welle is in 16th place, but KU men’s golf is next-to-last after Tuesday’s round of the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.

Welle is at 10-over 220.

The Jayhawks, at 897, are ahead of only Kansas State (913) in the nine-team field. Texas — with three of the top five individuals -is running away with the team race with 849, 20 strokes better than runner-up Texas Tech.

“We made a few costly errors, but on this golf course, that’s easy to do,” KU coach Jamie Bermel said. “The course was wet and played fairly tough. Everyone hung in there today, but we just didn’t make enough birdies to offset the bogeys.”

KU’s other golfers: Daniel Hudson, tied for 26th, 225; Chase Hanna, tied for 28th, 226; Jacques Wilson, tied for 36th, 231; and Connor Peck, tied for 41st, 233.

The final round is today.
