KU puts 50 on rookie academic team

By Staff Reports     Jun 20, 2014

Fifty Kansas University student-athletes who recently completed their freshman year were among 455 athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team on Thursday.

Kansas tied for third-most among Big 12 schools.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team must be new, first-time/incoming freshmen who have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial coursework and achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in at least one of his team’s scheduled contests and must have been a member of his respective team for that sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.

Twelve Kansas teams had players honored, with rowing leading the charge with 13 individual honorees, including 4.0 nominee Lexie Lanphere.

Texas led all teams with 71 honorees, while Oklahoma (69), Baylor (50), Kansas (50) and Oklahoma State (40) had 40 or more members.
