Norman, Okla. ? Kansas University tennis went 7-0 and put two players into the Round of 16 on Saturday at the ITA Central Regional.
In the singles main draw, KU’s Maria Jose Cardona beat Wichita State’s Julia Schiller, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Missouri’s Rachel Stuhlman, 6-4, 6-3.
Maria Belen Ludueña beat Oklahoma’s Abbie Melrose, 6-4, 6-3, and Iowa’s Katie Zordani, 6-1, 6-1.
In consolation singles, Kansas’ Anastasija Trubica beat Central Arkansas’ Krizia Buck, 6-4, 6-1; Paulina Los edged Missouri’s Alex Clark, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5; and Dylan Windom routed SIUE’s McKenzie Thomas, 6-2, 6-0.
“I thought it was a great day,” KU coach Todd Chapman said. “Not just because we won all seven matches, but the way we won the seven. Probably three or four matches could have gone either way, and I felt like the way we won those matches, as far as playing tough even when maybe we didn’t feel very well or things like that. Those are things that show growth and that’s exciting for me to see.”
