Buchanan leads KU men’s cross country to finish 20th

— Sophomore Reid Buchanan placed 74th overall and led the Kansas University men’s cross country team to a 20th-place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday. Senior Kathleen Thompson was the top finisher for the Jayhawk women’s team, which finished 47th.

Both the men’s and women’s races featured over 300 runners and many of the top-ranked teams in the nation.

Buchanan finished 71st among team competitors in the 8K with a time of 24:08. Senior Donny Wasinger (95th overall, 24:15) and freshman Gabe Gonzalez (100th overall, 24:16) were close behind.

Thompson led the KU women in the 6K, finishing 193rd with a time of 21:20.

The Jayhawks will take two weeks off before competing in the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 27 in Austin, Texas.

I'll finish the reporting for you LJW. I should get paid as a stringer. There were 45 men's teams. There were 48 women's teams. Yikes! 47th of 48 teams, losing to Cal Poly and LaSalle among others. Iowa State number one. (We did beat Nebraska, however.)
