Basehor-Linwood tight end Ben Johnson commits to KU football

By Staff Reports     Feb 23, 2012

Ben Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound junior tight end from Basehor-Linwood High School, has orally committed to the Kansas football team, Rivals.com is reporting.

Johnson is the first KU football commit of the class of 2013.

“I have grown up a Kansas fan,” Johnson told JayhawkSlant.com. “I’m a Kansas guy and I have always liked the area. I just needed to think about everything. I talked with my family and knew Kansas is where I wanted to be.”

Johnson received a scholarship offer from KU on Wednesday. He needed just one day to think about it before calling coach Charlie Weis to commit Thursday evening.

During his junior year, Johnson caught 56 passes for 956 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Rivals.com lists Johnson the top tight end prospect in Kansas for the 2013 class.
