Former Newberry College head men’s golf coach Brian McCants was named an assistant coach for the Kansas University men’s golf team on Thursday.

McCants will begin working with the team next Wednesday.

Among other duties, McCants will help organize and run practices, recruit, and monitor and update the recruiting database.

McCants comes to Kansas after serving as the head men’s golf coach at Newberry, an NCAA Div. II school in Newberry, S.C., for the past six seasons, where he led the Wolves to three South Atlantic Conference

Championships. McCants also guided Newberry to the NCAA Div. II National Championship quarterfinals in 2011, making Newberry College the first South Atlantic Conference team in history to qualify for the NCAA Div. II Men’s Golf National Championship twice.
