? The Kansas University men’s golf team ended its fall season Tuesday with a fifth-place finish in the 14-team Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.

KU golfer Alex Gutesha led the Jayhawks with a three-round score of 3-under 210, which placed him eighth at the tournament. Three other Jayhawks finished in the top 30, including Chris Gilbert (tied for 18th place), Doug Quinones (tied-26th) and Paul Harris (tied-30th).

Kansas coach Kit Grove said his team ended the fall season on a high note, but that there’s still room for improvement before the spring.

“They’re going to need to put in the time in the offseason. We have to get sharper,” Grove said. “They’ve got to continue to do the stuff that we’ve been working on the past couple weeks through the offseason.”

Kansas will start its spring season on March 5 at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La.
