Former professional basketball player and Texas A&M standout A’Quonesia Franklin has been named an assistant coach of the Kansas University women’s basketball program, head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Thursday. “Aqua” Franklin spent last season as an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin.

Franklin replaces Katie O’Connor, who has accepted a position as assistant coach at the University of Virginia.

“We are excited to welcome Aqua to the Kansas women’s basketball family,” Henrickson said. “She is an energetic coach and a successful recruiter. She is an accomplished basketball player at every level of the game, which will be great for our player development.”

Following a decorated collegiate career, Franklin was the 38th overall selection in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. She spent the 2009 season with the Seattle Storm.
